DeMar DeRozan – Jumping Higher Than a Human!

1 More Reason to Improve Your Vertical

Well All-Star Weekend has come and gone and with it are the memories of some very fun moments this year. The incredible athletes with their insane vertical leaps were jumping higher than ever, both in the dunk contest and in the All-Star game itself.

Well, during my foray’s online I stumbled across one of these dunks in full slow mo glory. This is second dunk performed by DeMar DeRozan of the Toronto Raptors during the dunk contest. Part of the problem with the dunks these days is the players are so fast and get up so high we never really appreciate everything going on during a dunk.

With this slow mo version, you can see exactly how high DeMar jumps when you notice him ducking his head as he goes under the rim. Watch how far his vertical jump carries him as well. He’s not only going for height, but he must have jumped six to eight feet diagonally as well!

Anyway, here is the video,

The part we all have to remember is, these are professional athletes and they weren’t able to reach this high of a level without plenty of training. To jump higher and improve your vertical to this type of level isn’t impossible for anyone. It just requires a plan, some serious dedication and plenty of hard work.

Blake Griffin Takes 2011 NBA Slam Dunk Contest

February 20th, 2011

Jumping Higher With Tricks In Hand

The NBA Slam Dunk contest this year returned to dunks that were more theatrical and a wide ranging use of external tricks and items to help complement the vertical leaping ability of these NBA athletes and showcasing how athletes are jumping higher than ever. We saw two backboards, stuffed animals and in the finale, Blake Griffin leaping over a car to throw down the winning dunk.

If you were looking for a show this year, you were not disappointed! The dunkers this year brought in choirs, flag bearers and an amazing triple dunk. Yes you heard me, JaVale McGee ran from the left corner of the court with a basketball in each hand and proceeded to leap in the air, dunk one after another and then a third ball that was lobbed in.

Simply amazing and what I thought was the dunk of the night. It was this triple dunk that helped JaVale get to the finals against Blake Griffin. Now the theatrics really began.

Now in my opinion, Blake’s final dunk wasn’t as hard as many of the earlier dunks in the competition, however, the showmanship of bringing a choir to half court, leaping over the hood of a car and having your teammate, Baron Davis, alley-oop the ball to you as you leapt over the car was enough to clinch the win.  It just shows how the dunk contest has evolved from the days of Dominique Wilkins and Michael Jordan to an even more creative circus type of environment.

Is it better now? Perhaps to some, it is definitely more exciting as you wait to see how the athletes will attempt to top previous unbelievable highly theatrical dunks. However seeing some of the “old school” dunks from earlier dunk contests makes me wish for less props and more hops!

Leave a comment and tell me how you feel, do you like the new dunking styles or cars and gimmicks, or are you a fan of the windmill and tomahawk with flair?

2011 NBA Slam Dunk Contest

2011 NBA Slam Dunk Contest

The NBA Slam Dunk contest is always one of my favorite events on NBA All Star weekend and this year’s even should be extra slamming!

This year’s competitors will be

  • Serge Ibaka 6’10”, 235
  • JaVale McGee 7’0” 252
  • Demar DeRozan 6’7”, 220

And my favourite

  • Blake Griffin 6’10”, 251

Since last year’s winner, Nate Robinson, isn’t in the event this year, we are guaranteed to have a new Slam Dunk champion for 2011. Nate is the contests first triple winner and may be the last, unless of course Mr. Griffin comes through for a few years in a row!

Since I love to talk about jumping, this is where I have to remind everyone, mad jumping skills like these fellows have do not just happen. You need to have determination, effort and a jumping training program to keep you on track.

My favorite of course, is the Jump Manual. There are other jumping training programs out there as well, the important point is your vertical jump will not improve as quickly with a haphazard approach as it will with one of the time tested jumping training programs currently out there.

If your goal is to win a slam dunk contest, why don’t you start that goal by ordering your copy of the Jump Manual today! If you just want more information about the Jump Manual, look over to the right  and click the Find Out More button!

Jumping Higher, Just Like Blake

Blake Griffin, if you ever saw him play in Oklahoma he was amazing, but now that he is on the big stage playing in the NBA, his dominating game is really getting noticed. It also doesn’t hurt to have a 37 inch vertical along with a 6’10” frame as you tend to get noticed a lot!

Now Blake’s 37” vertical jump didn’t increase to that level on its own, he definitely puts in the work and this is what it usually comes down to when improving your vertical. But hard work alone won’t necessarily get you the results you most likely don’t just want, but demand of yourself.

They say, if you put in the time, you will get the results, but it’s not exactly true. You see there are advantages to following where other successful people have gone and emulating them. Whether it’s success in business, success in school or success in improving your basketball game, if you don’t do many of the techniques the other successful people use, you may never achieve their status.

How Bad Do You Want To Jump Higher?

Since, we are talking jumping here, let’s cut to the chase. If you are any kind of basketball player, you know improving your vertical will improve your game. Whether that extra inch gives you the ability to reach for that extra rebound above your opponent or whether it allows you to elevate just above the other players outstretched hands for a jump shot, an improved vertical jump is important to you.

Unlike Blake Griffin, you likely don’t have the ability to hire a professional trainer to work with and you may not have the equipment available that many professional athletes do, but yet you still want to do the most you possibly can to improve your vertical, right? So what do you do? Well this is where a program like the Jump Manual comes into play.

The Jump Manual is the essential guide to help you improve your vertical as quickly and as efficiently as possible.
